Dear Mr Hussein Imam Ali,
The Golden Formula was a
separate item in the last Rules of the Game
Commission meeting in Lausanne, in
September. The members found the report and
its recommendations very detailed and very
interesting.
There was considerable
discussion on the subject. The evaluation of
the flying ball problem was exactly as our
own analysis had shown, albeit by
alternative methods. Your scientific
approach to the problem was universally
praised, as being detailed and rigorous.
There were, however,
alternative solutions proposed during our
discussions. Consequently on behalf of the
Commission, I would ask you to
continue your project on our behalf;
focus on repeating the evaluation but using
your Golden Formula solution, so that we can
get comparative data.
The data we really need are
on Rally Length comparisons; set duration
comparisons; match duration comparisons;
number of net crossings per rally
comparisons.
I hope that we can count on
your continued assistance in this project.
On behalf of the Commission,
I should like to thank you once again for
your initiative in embarking on this
enterprise, and in sending the research data
to us for our consideration.
Thank you for your support.
Best wishes,
Sandy Steel
