Kuyt Reveals Pride At Liverpool Performances

Unibet NL look towards Anfield for the latest football betting news:

Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has revealed that the club’s performances against the top sides in the Premier League have handed them the best chance possible of finishing in a Champions League spot at the end of the season. His comments came after Liverpool held high-flying Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Sunday, with striker Andy Carroll forcing Joe Hart to pull off a world-class last minute save from a shot that perhaps should have handed the home side victory.

The second half was dominated by Liverpool, who took full advantage of their numerical supremacy after Mario Balotelli was sent off for two bookable offences and forced Hart into one of the best goalkeeping performances in recent years in the domestic league.

It has now been over 14 months since Liverpool were beaten in the league by any of City, Manchester United, Arsenal, or Chelsea, and this season they have managed to beat two of those teams already.

According to Kuyt, this record is nothing short of “fantastic” and indicative of a bright future that manager Kenny Dalglish is building for as they seek to make sure next season presents their fans with Champions League football once again.

For now, though, Liverpool will just be focusing on their Carling Cup quarter-final against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where they won just a week ago. If they can win that, then Liverpool fans might just start to believe that a trophy or two this season isn’t as unrealistic as it looked just a few months ago. Keep an eye on the Reds in the Unibet sport odds as the weeks pass by!

Have Arsenal Really Turned A Corner?

The writers over at Unibet NL Casino take a look at the current happenings at the Emirates Stadium:

If you’re an Arsenal fan, you’ll have become fairly accustomed in recent years to watching on as the press build up your team before knocking it down with a shocking ferocity, but this season, the opposite trend has occurred. Arsenal’s chances of winning anything were all but written off before a ball had even been kicked, with Cesc Fabregas finally joining Barcelona and Samir Nasri holding the club to ransom before eventually securing a move to Manchester City.

Their poor start to the season left them down in the relegation places, but a recent up-turn in form has led to the English sporting press marvelling at Arsene Wenger and his ability to drag the club out of the hole they were buried so deeply in not so long ago.

A win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge all but ensured that the memories of their 8-2 drubbing away from home in Manchester were banished to the back of the mind, but have Arsenal really turned a corner? Are they really now a team able to string together an unbeaten run to upset the sport betting odds set by the likes of Unibet and make their mark in all competitions?

Well, if you watched their game against Fulham at the weekend, the answer is “perhaps not”. The draw highlighted everything that is still slightly suspect about the Gunners; Andrey Arshavin looked woeful, Theo Walcott’s pace was all too predictable through the second half, and their over-reliance upon Robin van Persie was again clear to see. With some dodgy defending culminating in an own goal, some woeful finishing from Aaron Ramsey, and a couple of potential injury problems to boot, it would seem that the ground  the Gunners are standing on isn’t quite as steady as we’ve been led to believe.

Ultimately the season in the Premier League is a long and hard one, and nothing is won or lost as early as November, but it seems clear that Arsenal still have it all to do if they want to break into the top four come May.

Footballers’ wages today – NOTHING BUT NET!

One of the highest paid Footballers?

One of the highest paid Footballers?

Apparently Premier League football clubs are spending 68% of their incomes on the players’ wages.  This amounts to more than 1.4 billion pounds a year and must keep the payroll services people very busy!  The cost of Footballers’ wages rose above revenue growth for the second year in a row.  Basically for every hundred pounds that comes INTO the clubs, £67 goes out on salaries – way too much!  Alan Switzer, director in the Sports Business Group at Deloitte commented that ‘Whilst revenues have held up well, a wages/revenue ratio of 88% is a cause for concern and will need to be addressed by Championship clubs. Champions League Semi Final 1st Leg

When I watched this game last night between Real Madrid and Barcelona I felt that I needed to write about it. El Classico, the biggest game in Spain and it being the Champions League Semi Final it was expected to be a great, end to end, exciting free flowing fixture. It wasn’t able to be great due to the Barcelona players hitting the floor every minute, it wasn’t able to be end to end because Barcelona held possession well and Real Madrid seemed to lack attacking mentality and free flowing, the only thing that was free flowing was the whistle in Wolfgang Starks hand. In my opinion the decision to send off Pepe was ridiculous and that’s what won the game for Barcelona. Not taking anything away from the world’s greatest player Lional Messi who’s got it all, this is also the reason Barcelona won the game. [Read more...]
