Trentino
BetClic of Italy claims the Club World
Championship gold
DOHA,
November 08, 2009 – Trentino BetClic of
Italy kept the name of the world club kings
purely Italian for the fifth time in a row
after they overwhelmed PGE Skra Belchatow
3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-19) in the final of
the FIVB 2009 Men’s Club World Championship
here at Aspire Zone indoor hall in Doha,
Qatar on Sunday. Belchatow becomes the first
Polish club to stand on the podium of the
prestigious championship that returned back
to action after 17 years gaining the silver
Medals. Zenit Kazan of Russia returned back
to the podium after 20 years when CSKA
Moscow gained the silver in 1989 following
their victory over Paykan of Iran 3-0
(25-13, 25-18, 25-16).
The Italian team received the gold medals in
presence of the FIVB Vice Presidents
Theofanis Tsiokris, and Dr. Ar Elwani, FIVB
Board members Shanrit Wongprasert, Abdelhadi
Ghzali and FIVB Sports Events director Piero
Rebaudengo.
In the past four competitions an Italian
club has triumphed. Maxicono Parma won the
crown in 1989; Massaggero Ravenna in 1991;
and Mediolanum Milano in 1990 and 1992.
Gold Medal match
Trentino BetClic bt PGE Skra Belchatow 3-0
(26-24, 25-18, 25-19)
Trentino BetClic of Italy swept PGE Skra
Belchatow 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-19) in the
final match shorter than expected and
lasting 78 minutes.
The amazing solid block of the Italian team
was the main factor to achieve the victory
as they didn’t allow Belchatow to apply
their attacking strategy all through the
match. The middle blocker Emanuele Birarelli
and Andrea Sala with the aid of the side
blockers made it impossible for Kurek
colleague to return back to the field after
the thrilling first set. The tight block
paved the way for the wings Leandro Vissotto
and Matey Kaziyski to fly high and score
from all the net positions and use the
golden formula to their side. With his 21
points scored in the match Vissotto made the
difference with the aid of Kaziyski who
scored 16 points. Bartosz Kurek topped the
match scorers with 23 points but he didn’t
find the support from his team stars
specially Stephane Antiga and setter Miguel
Falasca who were out of their well known
performance. .
Bronze Medal match
Zenit Kazan bt Payaken 3-0 (25-13, 25-18,
25-16)
Zenit Kazan of Russia break all the borders
to clinch a straight sets victory over
Paykan of Iran 25-13, 25-18, 25-16 in the
bronze medal match of the 2009 Men’s Club
World Championship here at Aspire Zone
indoor hall in Doha, Qatar on Sunday. Zenit
Kazan won the bronze medal while Paykan
finished the competition at the fourth
position.
Zenit wing spiker Maxim Pantelemonenko and
the opposite Alexey Cheremisin were the
match stars with the blockers Alexander
Abrosimov and Nikolai Apalikov who didn’t
allow Iran team to penetrate and enter the
match any time through the three sets.
Pantelemonenko topped the match scores with
