Al Rayyan, Al Arabi thrash opponents
DOHA
(AFZAL SHAIKH) June 27, 2007 – Qatar's
leading volleyball teams Al Rayyan and Al
Arabi recorded victories on the second day
(Wednesday) at the inaugural Volleyball
Golden Formula Test Championship taking
place at the Al Arabi Sports Club.
Al Rayyan had a great season this year
taking all the three titles (Qatar League,
HH the Heir Apparent Cup and HH the Emir
Cup) continued with their dominating form to
register yet another win.
Recently crowned HH the Emir's Cup title, Al
Rayyan trounced Al Ahli 3-0 in a one-sided
match with (25-17, 25-23, 25-19) to list
their first win after a disappointing 3-2
defeat against Qatar SC on the opening day
(Tuesday).
The key players from Al Rayyan were given
rest by the Coach Zuhair Belhaj from
Tunisia.
"Our spikers had a hectic season and they
were desperate to take some rest, so I had
them sitting on the bench, while used the
other lot of young players who needed match
experience," said Belhaj.
Speaking about the Golden Formula test event
Belhaj said: "We must help grow this idea
and take it more positively, it shows ways
to improve the game, these are good rules
and will soon be included internationally as
per rules of FIVB, the Qatar Volleyball
Association (QVBA) official Hussein Imam Ali
has worked hard on these rules and we need
to support them embrace the rules in FIVB,"
added the Tunisian.
China's
Feng Li the head coach of Al Ahli had
knowledge about these rules and has
appreciated Qatar's initiative in bringing
it up to FIVB.
"These rules were discussed in China and
other Asian countries but the report sent by
QVBA was far more analyzed and detailed, I
appreciate this concept as it will help
boost the standard of the Asian teams
against Europeans.
"It is too
early to comment on this any further as we
had very little time to train our players
accordingly but if we were given more chance
we can surely do better," said Li. |
