Al
Arabi bags VGF test event title
DOHA
(AFZAL SHAIKH) July 03, 2007 –
Al Arabi
toppled the standings with 11 points at the
Volleyball Golden Formula (VGF) test event
played in their home court on Tuesday.
Al Arabi
thrashed Al Ahli 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-20)
to take the points tally to 11, ahead of
Qatar with 9 points, Al Ahli and Al Rayyan
shared 8 points each, but the points
difference between Al Ahli (0.79) and Al
Rayyan (0.5) confirmed the 3rd and 4th
places.
Al Ahli got
an early blow with the ace spiker, Tareq
Abdulhabib twisting his ankle in the first
set to find himself at the bench for the
rest of the match. The injury wasn’t too
serious and hopefully he will recover till
the next championship.
Al Ahli's
head coach, Feng Li of China appreciated the
efforts of Qatar Volleyball Association (QVBA)
for organising the test event, but
complained about the hectic schedule.
"Our players
did had much training to prepare for the
competition, they had little time after HH
the Emir Cup to focus on something new (VGF),
the sudden change didn’t allow us to set our
minds and implement the technique the VGF
had to offer, also the injuries to our key
players was an important factor in our
performance," said Li.
Supporting
the new concept and appreciating the efforts
of QVBA and especially Hussein Imam Ali,
QVBA Technical Director and mastermind of
VGF the Al Arabi coach showed gratitude
towards the overall organisation.
"I appreciate
this new concept, it actually had two
systems (good and bad), the players need
more time to train and only then things can
work out in a better way, I would also like
to appreciate and thank the federation,
sponsors and Hussein Imam Ali for bringing
this idea for a better future for
volleyball," said the Al Arabi team coach.
Cuban Nogoom
Bysys of Arabi was declared best player of
the winning team, while Jasim Musa (Libero)
was awarded best player for Al Ahli.
Al Arabi got
richer by QR 35,000, followed by Qatar SC
with 25,000, Al Ahli 15,000 and Al Rayyan
10,000 respectively.
